Joseph McFarlane   (17?? - 1843)
 
Born in Perthshire. Wright and master cooper.
 
Grizal McFarlane   (17?? - 1833)
 
Also refered to as Grace (at burial and after her death). "Grizal" is probalbly the Gaelic "Griseal" (pronounced "gree'shul"), and is associated with the English name "Grace".
 
They were married 16th May 1804 at Moneydie, Perhshire. They lived at Clockie Mile, Findo Gask, Perthshire (1811, 1813) and Chapelbank, Findo Gask (1815, 1818). Gaelic speakers? Peter and Grizal were baptised by Mr. Duncan McFarlane, the Gaelic minister at Perth. This is recorded in the register of baptisms at Findo Gask in 1811. (not found in Perth register).
 
They lived in the parish of Blackford (1821) and in Auchterarder from at least 1823 onwards. Grizal (Grace) died there 23rd May 1833 and Joseph on 22nd March 1843. The address in 1841 was the Feus, Auchterarder.

Grizal McFarlane   Born 21st May 1809. Also known as Grace. Married Duncan Stalker, teacher/ gardener/clerk, in Auchterarder, 1833. Four children - Peter (1836), John (1838), Margaret (c1840) and Catherine (c1842). Duncan was transported to Australia in 1844 for falsifying a deed in his employment. Grace died 1846.

John McFarlane   Born 26th September 1813. Died aged 18, 24th May 1832.

James McFarlane   (1815 - 1897)
 
Born 19th December 1815 at Chapel Bank, Findo Gask, Perthshire. Also lived in Auchterarder.
 
Margaret McOwan   (1815 - 1852)
 
Born 30th December 1815 at Auchterarder.
 
They were married 3rd January 1835 at Auchterarder, both aged 19. They lived at Greenbank (1841), Powhillock (1845) and the Feus (1846, 1851). James was a hand-loom weaver. Margaret died 25th February 1852, at the age of 36.

Andrew McFarlane   Born 15th August 1839. Became a coachpainter in Dundee - 118 Hawkhill (1867, 1868), 154/8 Lochee Road (1874, 1883), 5 Temple Lane (1891, 1897), 51 Small's Wynd (1904). At least three children:- Robert, Christina (1868/9) and Mary (1875/6).
 
Catherine McFarlane   Born 30th October 1841.
 
George McFarlane   Born 26th October 1843. Died 3rd February 1844 aged 4 months.
 
Grace McFarlane   Born 29th March 1845. Died 25th January 1846, aged 10 months.
 
Ann McFarlane   Born 14th December 1846. Died 26th December 1847, aged 12 months.
 
Peter McFarlane   Born 9th January 1849. Lived in Dundee.
 
 
After Margaret's death, James moved to Dundee to become a labourer (some time between 1852 and 1857). At the age of 41 he remarried. His bride was 25-year-old jute-worker Mary Ann Reid who was born in Ireland about 1833, the daughter of Robert Reid, labourer, and Hannah Glover. She had a sister, Agnes, and a brother, John.
 
They were married 2nd October 1857 at 3 Windsor Street, Dundee. James was a rag warehouseman or "broker" at 144 Overgate, Dundee (1860, 1861), a waste-dealer at 51 Seagate (1866), at 39 Seagate (1869, 1870) and at 70 Blackness Road (1871, 1872). Also a wincy weaver. He died a pauper at the age of 81, 8th August 1897, at the Parochial Hospital, Dundee.

James McFarlane   (1835 - 1904)
 
Born 25th August 1835 at the Feus, Auchterarder. A hand-loom weaver in the cotton industry there at 15.
 
Isabella McDougall   (1836 - 1903)
 
Born 10th August 1836 at Langshot, Muthill, Perthshire. They lived at Blackford for some time before moving to Auchterarder in the 1850's.
 
They were married in Auchterarder 10th July 1857 and lived in the main street or Feus. James was a cotton-weaver, Isabella a cotton-winder. About 1861/2 they moved to Dundee where James' father was already living. They lived at 198 Overgate (1862, 1863), Edwards Land, Cherryfield (or Walton and Wellington Street) (1867, 1871) and 23 Lawrence Street, from about 1876.
 
James worked as a labourer at first (1862, 1869), but is also described as a domestic coachman (1863) and mill-worker (1867). He then became a mill foreman (1871, 1881). He is also described as a foundry labourer, a calender worker and an auctioneer's porter.
 
James is no longer living at home after 1877. He was at 3 Lawrence Street 1878 - 1883, and at 1 Lawrence Street 1884 - 1887. He died at Dundee Royal Infirmary 19th June 1904, aged 68. His home address then was given as 2 Westfield Avenue.
 
Isabella was a laundress in 1881. She lived alone at 23 Lawrence Street from about 1890, took in lodgers for some time, and died there, aged 66, 1st June 1903.

John McFarlane   Born 2nd November 1862. A mill-worker at 18 but also believed to have worked in the Dundee fish market. Married Catherine McMahon and had 7 children:- Catherine, Isobel, Margaret, John, Robina, Elizabeth and Mary Ann.
 
Peter McFarlane   Born 2nd May 1867. Died young in a fire.
 
Margaret McFarlane   Born 15th March 1869. Married name Paterson. Dundee.
 


 
James McFarlane   (1857 - 1912)
 
Born 9th November 1857 at the Feus, Auchterarder. Moved to Dundee about 1861/2 and lived at 198 Overgate (1862, 1863), Edwards Land, Cherryfield (or Walton and Wellington Street) (1867, 1871) and at 23 Lawrence Street from about 1876. A message boy at 13.
 
Ann Ower   (1858 - 1900)
 
Born 16th May 1858 at Donald's Land, Lochee. Her mother was only 17 or 18 when she was born. Also lived at Johnstone Land, Lochee in 1861. In 1881 she was a sack machinist, living in lodgings at 12 Kinloch Street, Dundee, where her first child was born.
 
Three weeks after their first child was born they were married at 12 Kinloch Street, 12th October 1881. They lived at 13 Lawrence Street (1884, 1886), 2 Balgay Street (1889), 12 Balgay Street (1891), 2 City Road (1895) and 12 City Road (1896, 1900).
 
James was a calender worker in 1881 and a cloth lapper (1881, 1886). He then trained as a taxidermist or birdstuffer with J.R. Gow & Sons of Union Street, Dundee. Also described as a naturalist. It is believed that he had a disagreement with his employer about 1896 and set up his own business at 32 Barrack Street. He is reputed to have stuffed animals and birds for the Dundee museum and also for the British Museum in London. He was also a dog-breeder and a rat-catcher.
 
Ann died of TB. at 12 City Road on 17th march 1900, at the age of 41. After this the family lived at 11 Milnbank Road (1903) and 20 Pole St. (1912). James became an alcoholic and died of TB. 22nd February 1912 at the age of 54.

Margaret Munro McFarlane   Born 22nd September 1881. Known as Maggie. Had an illegitimate son, Thomas (McFarlane). Married Robert Borland and had another son, James. Their address in 1912 was 10 Pole Street. Later lived at 38 Polepark Road. Margaret died 26th August 1955.
 
Isabella McDougall McFarlane   Born 9th February 1884. Known as Bella. Married Patrick McIntyre. No issue.
 
Annie McFarlane   Born 19th April 1886. Married James Stewart.
 
Lizzie McFarlane   Born 17th may 1889. Married Alexander Leighton and emigrated to Ashtabula, Ohio, USA in 1914. No issue.
 
Robina McDougall McFarlane   Born 14th July 1891. Died young.
 
James McFarlane   Born 1893. Married Agnes Lorimer. No issue. Died 1981.
 
Millicent Annie Brown McFarlane   Born 22nd October 1895. Married David Taylor. Two sons:- John and David.
